This research focus seeks to examine, from a variety of perspectives, the legacies of nineteenth- and twentieth-century imperialism – as well as Empires of the twenty-first century. This research is indebted to analyses and critiques of colonialism inaugurated by anticolonial and decolonial philosophy from the Global South.

Our discussions will focus on these questions by exploring from a variety of angles, including aesthetic, literary, cultural, historical, and political concerns. From questions of identity to discussions around world literature, this research focus seeks to foreground the importance of humanistic critique in the still-colonial world.
